Looking Ahead: What’s Coming from Toyota in 2022

It’s hard to believe that 2021 is almost gone. As a brand that’s always looking to the future, Toyota has some big plans for what the next year has in stock. From redesigns to amazing news, there are so many great things to be excited about from Toyota in 2022.

All-New 86

The 86, now called the GR86, will get its most dramatic update yet. For 2022, Toyota has completely redesigned its affordable sports car. The exterior isn't the only change, however. Power will increase from 205 horsepower to 228. This may not sound like much, but in such a small car, that's significant. That power increase is thanks to an all-new Boxer engine. The suspension has also been retuned to accompany the more rigid chassis and the upgraded transmission will offer smoother, more precise shifting.

Redesigned Tundra

Toyota's brawny truck also gets a redesign for 2022. Two turbocharged V6 powertrains will be available, producing up to 437 horsepower and 583 pound-feet of torque. With a towing capacity of up to 12,000 pounds, the new Tundra retains its strength for a new generation, while improving efficiency. Speaking of towing, the new Tundra features tons of tech to make hooking up and towing even easier. Off-roading capability isn't something you'd expect with a truck this size, but when it comes to Toyota, you can expect to be surprised.

New Electric

Toyota has long been one of the leaders in hybrid technology, most notably, the Prius. Many popular Toyota gas models also offer hybrid variants. However, the automaker is ready to step into the fully-electric segment, starting with the 2023 bZ4X SUV. This sharp model is expected in mid-2022 and will have an estimated 250-mile range.
